SSI Altitude Diving Class card image

Details

The SSI Altitude Diving specialty teaches the knowledge needed to safely dive at elevations above 1000 feet. This is especially useful for divers who plan to visit mountain lakes, inland dive sites, or travel to destinations where standard sea-level rules do not apply.

You will learn how altitude affects pressure, dive planning, decompression considerations, and depth calculations. The course helps you understand why a dive profile that seems ordinary at sea level may require different planning when conducted at elevation.

The class focuses on practical decision-making: understanding altitude tables or computer settings, planning conservative profiles, managing ascents, and recognizing how environmental conditions can affect the dive.

Upon completion, you will earn the SSI Altitude Diving specialty certification.
